There's something about covers that tickles my brain.
Sometimes I wonder, where do songs come from? Some songs sound so... boring... and typical. Others, though they have the exact same chords, have just the right inflection to make me smile, cry, and sing along.
Then there are covers. Covers well done not only do justice, but uncover something new about the original. Maybe all songs cover something inside.
Here are some covers I thought of. Please post your favorite covers!
Beck recently started a whole series of covers. I could spend all day on this site.
Some soulful renditions:
Corinne Bailey Rae - Steady as she goes (Raconteurs cover)
Aretha Franklin - Bridge Over Troubled Waters
Lauryn Hill - You're just too good to be true
and... might as well add:
Lauryn Hill - Superstar (ok, so not really a cover, but just a sample of the Doors, "baby light my fire")
And now onto Beatles covers!
Jake Shimabukuro - While my guitar gently weeps (on the ukulele!)
George Benson - Here Comes the Sun
Stone Temple Pilots - Revolution
And then... some notable rock covers
RHCP - Higher Ground (on the Arsenio Hall show!)
Rage Against the Machine - Renegades of Funk
Some Bob Dylan covers
Pearl Jam - Masters of War
Jimi Hendrix - All Along the Watchtower
Swell Season ft Liam - Forever Young (those cats from the movie Once)
